Timber Frame Barn

The DeVivo Family Barn

Angelo and Laurie, well, mostly Angelo, wanted a workshop and a place to boil maple sugar--a family hobby--out of the weather. And a place for deer antlers and fishing poles and a foosball table. Something like that. The woods surrounding their home provided all of the timber and lumber for the building. Laurie and Angelo and their children, not to mention grandparents, friends and neighbors, provided all of the necessary enthusiasm for a forest-to-finished-frame project. We began felling trees and sawing on-site in early winter, and raised a canted queen-post frame the following September. A memorable family odyssey.
